EDITOR'S LETTER
Hayley Lenington-Leray
Happy New Year! Yes, it’s that time of year again and like many prior, I’ve compiled a mental list of resolutions I vow to adhere to for the next twelve months. However, this year, my path to resolution seems misconstrued with false intentions. It occurred to me shortly after my Grandmother took a nasty spill and fractured her hip a few days before Christmas. It wasn’t in seeing her bandaged, wired and poked and prodded but rather it’s the images I saw outside of her hospital room that broke my heart. Hospital hallways are lined with successful recoveries but they also serve as a cold and bitter reality for many who suffer alone and in pain. This medical habitat is itself a dichotomy – it is a portal for the sick to recover, but it is also the domain of weak and tired who have lost their will to live. My Grandmother never wavered on her route to recovery because she was surrounded by her family’s love… a compelling force that reminds me how fortunate I am. It’s hard enough growing old, but it’s more painful growing old alone. So, before enmeshing yourself in a myriad of pointless resolutions this year, take inventory of what’s really important and remember, true wealth is not measured in the number of coins we collect throughout our life, but rather in the amount of love that surrounds us along the journey. Once again, the team at Signature MONTANA has a stellar line-up for the 2012 winter issue. So, buckle up or better yet, button up as we head into ice country for the chance to take home the "big one" with one of north central Montana’s extreme anglers. The hills are alive with the sound of winter wedding bells as Showdown Ski area is magically transformed into a vintage winter "weddingland" bursting with glam and glitz in the Signature Style section. Back at the ranch, we get to the meat of the operation and find out who really rules the roost, and are electric cars really an environmentally sound investment? Our Signature MONTANA energy expert, Barry Dardis, provides a little "green" insight that might surprise you. We get a back stage pass to explore the inner workings and personal sacrifices made as Western Art Week prepares its descent on the electric city and we head to the capital city for a history lesson on the awe-inspiring stained glass windows that adorn the Roman Catholic Cathedral of St. Helena. As always, this is just a sampling of what to expect as you peruse the pages of this issue. So settle in and enjoy the read. From all of us at Signature MONTANA magazine, we wish you a Healthy and Happy New Year! Remember to take time this year to explore, enjoy and appreciate the many treasures that abound right here in north central Montana. |
